The short answer
Partly. Lose It tracks dietary cholesterol and saturated fat, but turning them into daily goals is a Premium feature. It doesn't track blood cholesterol: its help centre documents no way to log LDL, HDL or triglyceride results from a lab test.
Lose It is a popular, well-rated calorie counter built mainly for weight loss. If your doctor has told you to bring your cholesterol down, here's what it can and can't do. Every Lose It detail below was checked against Lose It's help centre and app store listings on 16 October 2026.
What Lose It tracks
- Eight core nutrients you can set goals for: carbohydrates, cholesterol, fat, fibre, protein, saturated fat, sodium and sugar. Saturated fat goals can be in grams or as a percentage of calories.
- 18 more nutrients you can view but not set goals for, including trans fat, potassium and several vitamins.
- A Heart Healthy nutrition strategy. It mirrors the DASH diet, with a moderate fibre target and low saturated fat and sodium targets. A Mediterranean strategy pairs a high fibre target with lower saturated fat.
- Blood pressure and blood glucose, as custom health goals that can sync with Apple Health.
What needs Premium
Most of the cholesterol-relevant features sit behind Lose It Premium:
- Custom nutrient goals, including cholesterol, saturated fat and fibre. Lose It's help centre says: "Tracking custom nutrient goals is a Premium feature."
- Nutrition Strategies, including Heart Healthy and Mediterranean.
- The barcode scanner, AI voice logging and photo logging, according to the App Store listing.
Premium is a subscription, and the App Store lists several price points depending on the offer, so check the current price in the app.
What Lose It doesn't track
- Your lipid panel. There's no documented place for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL or triglyceride results, so no trend chart or reference ranges for them.
- Soluble fibre. Fibre is tracked as a single total. Soluble fibre (oats, beans, lentils) is the type most linked to lower LDL.
- The link between food and results. Without lab results in the same app, you can't see whether a few months of lower saturated fat lined up with a lower LDL.

Lose It is strong for weight loss, and if you also track blood pressure or glucose, Premium covers those. For cholesterol specifically, Heart Tracker gives you saturated fat tracking and your lipid results in one place at no cost. If you're weighing a full switch for weight loss as well, see our Lose It alternative breakdown.
How to track cholesterol properly, whichever app you use
- Log every lipid panel with the date and whether you fasted. Learn what each number means in how to read your cholesterol test results.
- Set a saturated fat limit in grams. The American Heart Association suggests about 5–6% of calories for people who need to lower LDL. Our saturated fat calculator turns that into a daily number.
- Eat more soluble fibre from oats, beans, lentils and fruit.
- Compare between tests, not day to day.
What about other apps?
- Does MyFitnessPal track cholesterol? Food only, with no place for lab results.
- Does Cronometer track cholesterol? Yes, food and lab results; long-term charts are on Gold.
- Does Apple Health track cholesterol? It stores dietary cholesterol, and lab results only via Health Records.
- Every option side by side: the best cholesterol tracking apps.
Frequently asked questions
Does Lose It track cholesterol for free?
Lose It records cholesterol and saturated fat as part of a food's nutrition, but setting a daily cholesterol, saturated fat or fibre goal is a Premium feature, as is its Heart Healthy nutrition strategy.
Can Lose It track LDL and HDL?
Lose It's help centre doesn't document a way to log LDL, HDL, total cholesterol or triglyceride results. Its documented health goals cover blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI and body fat. To track your lipid panel you'd need a separate app.
What is the Lose It Heart Healthy strategy?
It's one of Lose It's Premium Nutrition Strategies. It mirrors the DASH diet, with a moderate fibre target and low saturated fat and sodium targets. It's aimed at heart health and blood pressure rather than tracking cholesterol test results.
Is the Lose It barcode scanner free?
No. Lose It's App Store listing includes the barcode scanner, AI voice logging and photo logging among its Premium features (checked October 2026).
What app tracks both food and blood cholesterol?
Heart Tracker logs meals, including saturated fat, fibre and dietary cholesterol, and your lipid panel results in one free app with no account. Cronometer can also log lipid results as biometrics, with long-term charts on its paid Gold tier.
Track saturated fat and your lipid panel, free
Heart Tracker logs meals by voice or barcode at no cost and charts your LDL, HDL and triglycerides next to what you eat. No account needed.
